Christian Children's Home
We envision a world where the people we serve have seen firsthand the power of love, mercy and humility; where they join those who are inspired, empowered and eager to "go and do likewise."
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Early 1950's
J.W. and Mary Terry were listening to a sermon by a preacher named Grover C. Ross at a church in Portales, New Mexico. Grover preached about how, in James 1:27, God defines "pure religion" as taking care of others, especially orphans and widows. The Terrys responded by sacrificially giving eighty acres of farm land to begin a ministry for children in need.
1954
The New Mexico Christian Children's Home opened its doors in March of 1954 to help children and families in crisis. By the summer of 1958, NMCCH was home to forty-eight children.
1979
NMCCH added "A Mother's Choice", a licensed New Mexico adoption agency. A Mother's Choice provides a complete range of professional services and confidential, compassionate assistance to birth mothers and fathers while finding loving adoptive parents for their newborn babies.
1983
Our Single Parent Ministry was started to meet a growing need in society. Single parents are provided a home, utilities, and other necessities during the two to four year residency so they can stay with their children and improve their living conditions. Our goal is that they are able to fully support their families financially, emotionally, and spiritually.
2021
Responding again to pressing societal needs, we opened ministries to help meet the needs of young adults and new mothers or those who are pregnant and have no safe living conditions. Residents receive housing, utilities, personal coaching, and support. And, like all people who qualify for our ministries, young adults and new mothers are given many options for educational and vocational opportunities.
Current Day
NMCCH is thriving with your help! We have around 120 disadvantaged youth, young adults, and single parent families in our care that are able to live a supported, spiritually fulfilled, healthy life because of the work that we do.
