Description:
Houseparents love and care for children. They meet children's basic daily needs of food, shelter, and clothing. They also coordinate other critical services such as spiritual guidance, education, healthcare, mental/emotional support, recreation, and transportation. Houseparents work with NMCCH staff to create a caring Christian community that serves children under God.
Required
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and care for 10 to 12 children in addition to any children you may have of your own
- Budget: Trustworthy and responsible for cottage budget and receipts
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Driving: A valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Age: At least 21 years of age
- Married: NMCCH hires husband and wife couples who have been married for at least two years
- Physical: Requires the ability to complete common household tasks

- Commitment to confidentiality
- Professional presentation and attitude with coworkers, clients, vendors, and general public

- Ability to be flexible in daily routines
Preferred:
3+ years of successful work with children desired
Additional Legal Requirements
- Successful completion of a national criminal records background check (to include fingerprinting)
Primary Responsibilities
The essential responsibility throughout all the work of a houseparent is to model Christian family-living and present Christianity with a positive, inviting, and non-judgmental attitude
Family time
- Listen to children tell you about their day, their feelings, and their goals
- Coach children about navigating the complexities of life
- Accept children as they are, and nurture and build on their strengths
- Engage in fun activities with the children
- Guide, direct, and redirect basic behaviors, attitudes, and decision-making skills
- Teach responsibility through cottage job, school work, and other activities outside the cottage
- Keep an organized schedule
Coordinate with the child care team
- Report to the Residential Program Manager
- Houseparents work with the child care team to create individualized plans for children's growth. These plans address emotional, educational, medical, and spiritual needs.
